Overview

10 years ago, Spike disrupted the homebrewing space by offering brew kettles with welded fittings. While this is a more common practice today, it certainly wasn’t back then. Commercial breweries were using welded fittings, but the homebrew sector was still using a hole and an o-ring to make a seal.

Many suppliers still use this method to connect valves, thermometers, etc., however they are prone to leaking and will eventually wear out.

As of today, Spike is currently the only supplier with a team of experienced in-house welders dedicated to properly fabricating sanitary welded fittings. Spoiler alert: sanitary welds are important when you’re making something that will eventually be turned into beer.

Excellent Build Quality

My brew sculpture is still in the building stage. The welding quality on this tank is excellent with enough TC ports to fill my need with the HERMS coil and 4500 watt heating element installed.

Love these tanks!

I purchased the 50 gallon mash tun and the 30 gallon HLT with HERMS system. I ended up building my own PID controller and couldn’t be happier with how these tanks work together to heat and maintain temperature! Once at temperature, the mash tun stays within about 4 degrees of the HLT. A small price to pay to never worry about scorching the mash with fire. I routinely run 30 gallon mashes with 70 lbs of grain (90% corn). This setup handles it perfectly!!

Loved your kettle so much, I bought one for the kitchen!!

I make ALOT of stock. Bone broth, soup bases, mother sauces, concentrated versions of all the above. Large batches are always a hassle to de-fat strain and package. Don't get me started about clean up. The Spike 10gal kettle with a false bottom, TC connected butterfly valve and associated tubing makes packaging and de-fatting a single step process. The kettle fits perfectly on my gas stove and is the right size for sink clean up. If I take out the top rack, I can even fit it in my dishwasher. So now, once a month, I am able to make a fresh 10 gal batch of broth for consumption throughout the following weeks. Large batch sizes greatly reduces the amount of time per cup of product which makes it more likely that I will make broth again. -John, Camarillo CA

Great quality and craftsmanship

Coming from an 8 gallon Megapot with no ports to this 10 gal with 2 ports was a game changer. TC fittings are super easy to use and with one brew under my belt, I experienced no issues. When the kettle is empty with the butterfly valves on, it's a little one sided heavy, but that's more of an observation than an issue. Whirlpooling was a snap. I slightly tilted the drain valve since it was a close fit to the bottom, but I was still able to draw out nearly every drop. Definitely top quality equipment. This was my first dive into spike and I'll definitely be coming back for other equip. Highly recommend.

Welded Fittings

Our fittings are the strongest and most sanitary connection available. Our in-house welding team makes sure of that...

Thickest on the Market

Spike kettles are 20% thicker than any other kettle on the market. Why? If bigger is better, then so is thicker.

Modular Design

All Spike kettles are designed to be modular. That means you can use them as a hot liquor tank (HLT), mash tun (MT) or boil kettle (BK). As you expand your brewery, you can recommission an older kettle to a new use.

Tri-Clad Bottom

When heating a kettle with direct fire or induction, the tri-clad bottom helps evenly distribute heat along the entire bottom. It also prevents scorching, which you're more likely to experience using a single layer kettle.

Stepped Bottom Design

Designed for the mash tun and boil kettle, this simple feature makes a world of difference. For the mash tun, it gives the false bottom a solid surface to seal against without the need for annoying gaskets. After boiling, we recommend performing a whirlpool by hand or with a side pickup tube (as shown) and pump. The whirlpool brings all the hops and trub material in the center of the kettle to the lower part of the step. The second pickup tube is used to drain. You’ll see that this sits on the upper step and ensures that very little material gets drained into your fermenter.

Polished Stainless

While polished stainless looks better, it also serves an important function. It’s easier to clean! If you looked at a brushed stainless kettle under a microscope, you’d see that it’s quite rough. Polished stainless cleans up quicker with less scrubbing and chemicals.

Welded Handles

Handles are welded on the front (as opposed to the side) so they take up less horizontal space when used with a three-kettle system like our Trio. Also, the back handle is in the perfect spot to hang your lid on.

Rolled Lip

A partially rolled lip is far more sanitary than a close rolled lip. A partially rolled lip can’t trap liquid and leftover brewing remnants, but a rolled lip design traps liquid and keeps it there until you’re finished. It’s also much easier to clean.
