The Spike Mill
Beer may be from The Middle Ages, but that doesn't mean your mill needs to look like it's from then, too. Designed with the help and expertise of Briess Malt, this grain mill was uniquely and specifically made so homebrewers and pro brewers alike could get the best and fastest grain crush on the market—and look cool doing it. The sleek, lightweight and compact design of the Spike Mill features an integrated motor, tool-less gap setting, optimal hopper size, cord wrap and (wait for it...) an integrated funnel for dust mitigation.

Overview
The Spike Mill is the latest innovation coming out of the Spike Workshop. We mean it when we say our engi-nerds thought of everything. Here's a snapshot:
- Tool-less Gap Setting: Simply turn the dial to the gap setting you want.
- Integrated Motor: It's time to put the hand drill down.
- Offset Driven Rollers: The rollers are turned at different speeds (1.3:1) as this helps to shear the grain husk rather than crushing it and producing excess flour and dust.
- Optimal Hopper Size: Fill, but not overflow a 5-gallon bucket on the Home and add a full 50 lb bag on the Pro.
- Dust Mitigation: We got lots of feedback about dust. So we incorporated a dust mitigation funnel to help contain and reduce the amount of dust that ends up in your brewery.
- Light and Compact: Coming in at 25 lbs, the Home Mill is literally half the weight of competitor mills. Your back already says, "Thank you!"
- Hardened Steel Rollers: With the expertise of Briess Malt behind us, our team developed hardened 1144 steel (Rockwell 45C) rollers featuring a unique helical machined flute design which delivers the best crush available
- Chain Driven: Smooth and strong, the chain won't stretch or slip like a belt, or create wear shavings like gears. Both rollers are chain driven so there's zero chance of a jam.

The Spike Mill
The Spike Grain Mill is an outstanding tool for homebrewers and small-scale beer enthusiasts. Its precision engineering ensures consistent grain crush every time, which is critical for achieving optimal efficiency and flavor in brewing. The adjustable rollers make it easy to customize the crush to suit different brewing styles, and the mill's robust build inspires confidence in its durability. One of the standout features is its quiet operation, making it more enjoyable to use compared to many other mills. Its compact design also makes it a great fit for smaller brewing spaces. I particularly appreciate the ease of cleaning and maintenance, which adds to its long-term value. If you're looking to take your brewing game to the next level with a high-quality mill, the Spike Grain Mill is a fantastic choice.
Mill works great, but the finishes left something to be desired
For a $600 mill I would expect near perfection with the mill. Unfortunately, the mill we got was not perfect and we've been unable to actually secure the hopper to our mill fully because the holes that were drilled into the hopper don't actually line up with the holes on the mill which has been pretty frustrating. Other than that, the mill works great so far and I've got no complaints. Just wish qc would've caught the issue with the hopper before it was sent out.
Effortless
I no longer have to guess at the rpm of my drill. Simply turn the dial to the desired gap setting, fill the hopper and your done. Love it.
Awesome customer service!
So glad I bought this!
I have been home brewing for nearly 15 years and for the past eight years I have been milling my own grains using a two roll mill driven by an electric drill. Milling your own grains gives a home brewer the added flexibility to make recipe tweaks right up to the brewday and to keep on hand whole grains - which will keep better than milled grains. The downside is that using a drill leads to an inconsistent grain crush and takes longer. I made the move and bought the Spike Mill with a bucket-top adaptor. This contains all the dust and is more compact than a milling table in my small home brewery. Operation is fast and consistent. It is easy to adjust the crush and load the hopper. Then it's just a matter of turning it on and I can do other brew-day tasks while it is milling. It's perfect, well built and easy to operate. I learned two things in the five or six batches I have milled. 1) You should follow Spike's instructions and turn on the mill before adding the grain. I had one batch that stalled the mill and I had to remove the grain and re-add it while the mill was running. I should have followed the instructions! 2) I had one batch that included rolled outs which I mistakingly added to the weighed out grains. Do not try to mill them! The rolled oats prevented the grains from being pulled into the mill! Great job Spike! A great product that complements my Spike brewhouse well and improves the consistency of the batches I brew.
Tool-less Gap Setting
No tools, feeler gauges or any other crazy contraption required—simply turn the dial to the gap setting you want.
Integrated Motor
Featuring an integrated motor that saves you time and headaches! You can finally put that hand drill away and step up to a purpose built all-in-one mill.
Mill Throughput
You asked for this, and we listened! Due to the mass production approach we've taken with the Mill, we're able to get a lot of Mill throughput without the high cost. The Home is less expensive than the SsBrewtech, but outputs more milled grain/min. It's less expensive than the Blichmann but still in the same output ball park.
Then you have the beast that is the Pro. It's about the same price as the Blichmann, but can mill DOUBLE what that can do.
2 Sizes
We've said it before and we'll say it again, we don't believe in a "one size fits all model" when it comes to certain aspects of brewing. Which is why we came up with a Home and a Pro grain mill. So no matter if you're brewing in a basement or a commercial brewhouse, you're getting the best, fastest and most precise crush for your brewing system.
