After 25 years of service in the military and law enforcement, James K. tapped into his never-give-up attitude and turned a hobby into a new profession.
He shares his story in his own words…
When you spend 25 years of your life in the military and law enforcement, there’s this sort of never-give-up attitude that just sticks with you. It’s an outlook that motivated me to turn a hobby into a new profession, and it’s something I definitely had to tap into when I wound up opening PawPrint Brewery just three months before the pandemic hit. But to tell the truth, it’s the people I get to enjoy beer with who keep me going.
I might have never started brewing beer in the first place had a friend not showed me the ropes after a growler party. I wouldn’t have considered brewing commercially had my friends not kept pushing me to make more of the beer they loved. And I may not have decided to open a brewery in a town of 3,000 people had the community of Chatfield, MN, not been so supportive and welcoming.
In less than five years I graduated from a single Spike kettle to the Nano system we use here in our brewery. Their products have always provided a level of quality and simplicity that let me focus on what makes this job so rewarding - watching one of our customers take a sip of my beer and say, “Man, that is good.”
